Walking the woodland trail, as we do quite often, we encountered this American Toad on the fall leaves, totally camouflaged . I was happy I had my camera with me and was able to capture this image.

found this quarter size fellow on an old woods road that is surrounded by clear cuts. They say if you see one in the day it is likely running for it's life from something. I hope it wasn't my camera lens

In the spring at Hillman Marsh there is always a deafening chorus of American Toads as we are birding the Shorebird Cell. Most people don't even take a second look at them but when you see them close up they are very interesting and all have intricate and different markings. This one was particularly striking and I was lucky enough to catch him in the act of calling!

I placed this toad in the garden with a good view of the patio. Plenty of snakes sunning themselves nearby.

The pool cover in the spring is the most popular spot in the yard for the toads. Millions of eggs are laid and few survive.
